Overview

The Cambridge Housing Authority (CHA), established on December 9, 1935, is the largest provider of affordable housing in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As an independent public agency, CHA develops, owns, and manages public housing, including units for low-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Additionally, it administers tenant-based rental assistance through the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program. CHA serves over 8,000 residents, representing nearly 10% of the city's population. Its mission is to provide safe, quality housing that promotes citizenship, community, and self-reliance in one of the nation's most expensive housing markets. The agency operates approximately 50 public housing units, 7,600 HCV units, and 200 units of local, non-traditional housing. It also manages a state-assisted public housing program with 785 units and a state-leased housing program comprising 340 units.
