Overview

The Carlsbad Senior Center in Carlsbad, California, was established in 1989. The City of Carlsbad partnered with the Carlsbad Unified School District to construct a 28,300-square-foot facility that housed both the Senior Center and School District offices. After opening, the city leased the office space to the district for a period of ten years, after which the school district received condominium ownership of its share of the building. In 2013, the Senior Center expanded its services by opening on Saturdays, offering additional programs and activities for adults aged 50 and older. The center underwent a significant renovation and reopened on July 6, 2021, after being closed for over a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The reopening included the introduction of hybrid programming, allowing seniors to participate in both in-person and virtual activities.
