1801 N Lincoln Ave, Tampa, Tampa, Florida
The David Barksdale Senior Citizen Center in Tampa, Florida, was officially opened in 2003. The center was established to honor David M. Barksdale, a longtime Tampa native and recreation leader who began his association with the city's recreation department in 1942 while in high school. Barksdale served in World War II, attended the University of Tampa on the G.I. Bill, and eventually became the director of the recreation department, overseeing the construction of multiple recreation centers and public swimming pools. After his retirement in 1982, the North Boulevard Recreation Center was renamed in his honor in 1993. Following his passing in 1994, a new senior center was established at Macfarlane Park, continuing his legacy of service to the community .
