LSSI is a nonprofit organization founded in 1867 that provides a wide range of social services across Illinois, including affordable senior housing and home-based care. Through their Affordable Housing Services program, they offer Independent Living apartments in 20+ developments where low-income adults aged 62+ or individuals with disabilities can live safely and affordably. These apartment-style residences—typically studios or one-bedroom units—feature full kitchens, emergency call systems, accessible layouts, on-site coordinated services, and communal spaces designed to foster independence and community engagement. In addition to housing, LSSI offers Home Care (non-medical) assistance that allows seniors to remain comfortably in their homes. Their trained staff provide help with daily living needs like personal care, light housekeeping, meal preparation, companionship, and transportation support. Social service coordinators assist residents in accessing community resources, benefits, wellness programs, and scheduled events, ensuring a supportive environment where seniors can maintain autonomy, social connections, and a secure living experience.
