VITAS Inpatient Hospice Units offer compassionate, short-term inpatient care for patients whose symptoms are too challenging to manage at home. Staffed by interdisciplinary teams, these units provide a comfortable, homelike environment equipped with private rooms, family facilities, and around-the-clock support. With dozens of locations nationally, they ensure patients receive the symptom management they need—while honoring dignity, comfort, and family connection. Inpatient hospice units serve as “home away from home” for patients whose symptoms—such as uncontrolled pain, respiratory distress, or nausea—cannot be effectively managed at home. These units offer 24/7 clinical care until patients stabilize and can return to routine hospice at home Each unit provides care through an interdisciplinary team composed of: Team Manager Hospice Physician Skilled Hospice Nurses Social Worker Chaplain Bereavement Specialist Trained Volunteers VITAS inpatient units are located either within hospitals, nursing facilities, or freestanding hospice houses.
