Overview

Founded by Father Paul Hritz and Catherine "Kaki" O’Neill in 1988, Malachi House is a unique, Christian, nonprofit residential hospice located in Cleveland, Ohio. It serves terminally ill individuals experiencing homelessness or extreme financial hardship, offering a final home where compassionate, dignified care is provided at no cost. As a “loving home for life’s last journey,” Malachi House combines private, medically equipped rooms (15 beds) with true community support. Its mission stems from encountering people dying in unsafe places—with no caregiver or support system. The goal is to ensure that no one must face their final days alone or without care. 🌟 Core Services & Features Residential Hospice: Safe, home-like care setting for up to 15 residents; private rooms, communal areas (kitchen, chapel, atrium, dining, living room). 24/7 Care: Around-the-clock care from trained staff and volunteers with medical direction from partner hospice agencies. Holistic Support: Physical, emotional, spiritual, and social support, including music, art, and pet therapy, meals, clothing, and personal care. Volunteer Engagement: Volunteers offer companionship, home upkeep, meal service, and emotional support—including lean staff support for daily operations. Financially Accessible: Services are completely free—with no government funding—supported entirely by donations, grants, and community partnerships. Partner Hospice Care: Residents must be under hospice care; Malachi House complements medical oversight, not replaces it. Admission Criteria: Terminal diagnosis, lack of caregiver, financial limitations, and a DNR order are required. Hospice social workers typically refer residents.
